Parenting and Spirituality Book & Magazine List:

Parenting as a Spiritual Journey by Rabbi Nancy Fuchs-Kreimer
a beautifully written exploration of parenting for people of any faith, or those exploring the possibility

Feminist Parenting edited by Dena Taylor
a collection of wise and deep stories revealing how we love our children and how they help us grow

Having Faith by Sandra Steingraber
a scientist and mother writes from her unique point of view about the miracle of pregnancy, birth and motherhood

Mothering Magazine
parents who have committed themselves to bonding with their children as deeply as they can figure out how to use this magazine and its on-the-edge journalism to help guide them

Brain, Child magazine
mothers who are writers say it with wit and wisdom -refreshing, wise, deeply honest

I hope this list is helpful - it amazes me how much work it can be to find guidance, or even just company in this area. For so many people faith-led parenting is just what they do- part of who they are, with no separating it out. Probably as it should be. Anyway for me a scientist, a rabbi, a bunch of feminist moms, some granola-eating types and a handful of heady women writers are just what I need to keep me touching the deep places in parenting. I highly recommend a piece written in the latest Brain,Child called Mama Rage. It's the saddest and most honest account of one mother's inner struggle- and I can't imagine a mother for whom it wouldn't resonate, at least on some level. That piece of writing changed me as a mother, and I think about it every day, especially now while our family is navigating a very rough period.
